Fukushima: No End in Sight

There seems to be no end in sight for the beleaguered Fukushima nuclear disaster. It is suspected that radio active material is entering the harbor as record levels of tritium are being found there.
At the same time radioactive material has now contaminated the ground water and has worked its way into the Pacific ocean in general.
The Japan Times reports "The density of radioactive tritium in samples of seawater from near the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant doubled over 10 days to hit a record 1,100 becquerels per liter, possibly indicating contaminated groundwater is seeping into the Pacific, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said."

Scientific American reports that a million deaths will be directly attributed to the Chernobyl disaster.   And, as if that were not enough, the forests surrounding the area for hundreds of miles have absorbed radioactive materials over the years and forest fires will release that into the atmosphere effecting not only Russia but Finland and Sweden and other nations as well.    Chernobyl is an ongoing disaster as well still poisoning the land and people since 1986.

  1. This is so dreadful. How in the world can this be cleaned up short of floods and volcanic earth swallowing the tainted areas. This calls for titanic renovations.

    1. Shavua tov.. It certainly does mean titanic renovations. I think they will have to come from a great hand above. Sadly, we are mismanaging the creation in a huge way.

  2. This is horrible, but could it possibly be just part of the greater whole of challenges on our way?
